On June 27, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian presided over a regular press conference.
A reporter asked: On the 24th, the White House of the United States issued a statement announcing the official establishment of the "Partners in the Blue Pacific" with Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The statement said the five countries will work closely under this framework to address challenges such as "rising pressure on a free and open international order based on rules", support the prosperity, resilience and security of the Pacific region, and work with Pacific island countries on climate change, maritime security, health and other fields.
Zhao Lijian said that recently, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a full-coverage visit to the island countries in South Pacific that have established diplomatic relations, injecting new and strong impetus into the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides. China and the South Pacific island countries cherish the traditional friendship between each other and are committed to enhancing political mutual trust, deepening practical cooperation, and working together to meet challenges and achieve common development. China is happy to see willing countries do more practical things to promote the development and prosperity of South Pacific island countries.
Zhao Lijian emphasized that any cooperation initiative aimed at the South Pacific region should conform to the trend of the times for peaceful development and win-win cooperation, and respect the independence and sovereignty of Pacific island countries. It should not form gangs or small circles, nor should it target third parties or harm the interests of third parties.
