Following Tegar, Indonesian director Anggi Frisca returns on January 27 with a new sequel, Maira: Whisper from Papua. Set on the island of New Guinea, the film tells the story of an Indigenous girl named Maira and a disabled boy from the city, Tegar, who join forces to defend their homeland as Papua’s rainforests face escalating destruction. The film is scheduled for nationwide release across Indonesia on February 5. Born of the forest and rooted in the land, the whispers of Papua await the world’s attention.
