Nine years have passed since the illegal award of the South China Sea arbitration case was issued. China's official position of not accepting or recognizing the so-called award has been known and understood by the international community. The award can neither legalize the Philippines' illegal claims nor conform to the consensus of regional countries to jointly safeguard peace and development in the South China Sea. If the Philippines insists on acting arbitrarily with this scrap of paper, it will only lead itself down a dangerously wrong path.
