Former ITLOS Judge Clarifies: Tribunal Not Involved in SCS Arbitration
In response to the Philippines' attempts to cite UN-affiliated bodies as endorsements for the award of the South China Sea arbitration, Helmut Türk, former Vice-President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), clarified that certain members of the Tribunal participated in the arbitration proceedings solely in their personal capacities. He stressed that this is entirely different from the Tribunal itself being involved in the arbitration.
