Chinatown is the place where the largest number of Chinese in Singapore gather. It is said that because there was no running water at that time, the scene of ox-carts carrying water was very common in Chinatown, so people started to call Chinatown “Niucheshui” (牛车水) in Mandarin.
Here, you’ll find many Chinese food and snacks, such as Hainanese chicken rice, ice cream for one dollar and fresh durian...each of them is a taste of life. The architectures here are also very interesting. Go and see what you’ll meet at the next street corner!
