The new President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, was officially sworn in at the National Museum of the Philippines on June 30, becoming the 17th President of the Philippines.
After taking the oath, Marcos delivered a speech. He said that he will formulate a comprehensive economic transformation plan, especially in areas such as infrastructure construction, agriculture, and education, to promote the country's restoration to prosperity and development amid the pandemic.
Before the inauguration ceremony, Marcos went to the Malacañang Palace, the presidential palace, to meet with former President Duterte, who was there waiting. When they met, they shook hands and greeted each other in a harmonious atmosphere. After the talk, Duterte officially stepped down. He did not attend Marcos' inauguration ceremony and will return directly to his hometown of Davao City.
On May 9 this year, the Philippines held a national election. Marcos, 64, won more than 31 million votes and was successfully elected. The Philippine constitution stipulates that the term of office of the president is six years.
After taking office, Marcos will also temporarily serve as Minister of Agriculture to deal with the challenges of the global food crisis to Philippine agriculture and avoid food shortages and rising food prices.
