The Philippines is sending its largest-ever delegation to the China-ASEAN Expo to boost exports, The Philippine Star reported on Wednesday.

The 23rd China-ASEAN Expo will be held in Nanning, Guangxi, from September 17 to 21, with the Philippines serving as this year's Country of Honor.

The Centre for International Trade Exposition and Mission (CITEM) said the delegation comprises 313 people, including 73 high-value export companies covering agri-food, home and fashion, personal care, tourism, banking and pharmaceuticals.

It is the second time the Philippines has held the Country of Honor role, after 2013. Cebu province has been designated this year's "City of Charm," with a focus on promoting its trade and investment opportunities. CITEM said the delegation aims to position the Philippines as a preferred sourcing hub and a world-class tourism destination.

The export push comes even as Manila deepens defense cooperation with the United States and Japan. Economically, however, China's market remains hard to replace: Beijing has been the Philippines' largest trading partner and top import source for years. Chinese customs data show bilateral trade reached 308.3 billion yuan (about $43 billion) in the first half of 2026, up 17.1% year-on-year. Philippine factories remain heavily reliant on Chinese electronic components and machinery, with few short-term alternatives.
