China's Ministry of Natural Resources has carried out a multidisciplinary comprehensive geological survey in the waters of Huangyan Dao, according to the China Geological Survey under the ministry.

The survey was conducted by the research vessel "Haiyang Dizhi 10" from August 11 to September 8. It combined multiple methods — single-channel seismic, gravity and magnetic surveys, underway current measurements, conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) profiling, and geological sampling — to collect baseline data on marine hydrology, sedimentary strata, and geophysical fields, as well as samples of seawater, marine organisms, sediments, and seabed rocks.

The data will support research on seabed sediment types, stratigraphic structure, potential geological hazards, tectonic evolution, and marine environmental quality assessment in the area, the ministry said.

The survey also provides a scientific basis for China's comprehensive governance of the waters around Huangyan Dao.
