China and Cambodia held the eighth meeting of their Joint Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee in Nanning, Guangxi on Wednesday, co-chaired by Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong and Cambodian Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul.

The two sides reached broad consensus on expanding trade and investment cooperation, exploring a bilateral dialogue mechanism for agricultural trade, and strengthening coordination at the WTO and other multilateral fora. They also discussed integrated trade and investment development, upholding the multilateral trading system, and improving the business environment.

Yan said bilateral trade surpassed US$20 billion for the first time in 2025 and is expected to set another record in 2026. Chinese imports of Cambodian agricultural products have grown rapidly, with bananas, dried cassava, longan, and rice gaining market share in China. He called for making fuller use of existing mechanisms, raising trade and investment facilitation, and deepening industrial and supply chain integration.

Cham Nimul said China has been Cambodia's largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years and its largest source of foreign investment for 13. She welcomed greater Chinese imports and investment, and called for fuller use of free trade arrangements, stronger e-commerce capacity-building cooperation, and more access for Cambodian SMEs and products to the Chinese market. Cambodia will adopt more open and convenient policies to improve the business environment for Chinese-invested firms, she said.
