BBNJ Agreement officially takes effect on Jan. 17, 2026. Looking back on the negotiation process of the Agreement, Helmut Türk, former Vice-President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, stated that without China's efforts, the Agreement would have been difficult to adopt by consensus. He is confident that China will continue to actively promote the implementation of the Agreement.
