China Backs Indonesia's Pledge to Protect Chinese Investors as 'Family'
China on Tuesday welcomed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's pledge to protect Chinese investors "like family," saying the success of Chinese-funded firms in Indonesia is also Indonesia's success.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked about a ceremony launching a Chinese-funded mining downstream project, co-hosted by Indonesia's Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming and the Weda Bay Industrial Park. Prabowo attended and thanked Chinese investors for their cooperation and trust, saying his government would treat those who come to Indonesia, work with the country and help it as brothers and sisters.
"China appreciates the relevant remarks from the Indonesian leadership," Mao said. She noted that the two countries have long leveraged complementary strengths and deepened mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, mining and other sectors, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples.
"Chinese-funded enterprises' success in Indonesia is also Indonesia's success," Mao said, adding that Beijing is ready to work with Jakarta, guided by the strategic consensus of the two heads of state, to deepen cooperation and help Indonesia turn its resource advantages into development momentum.
