Philippines' Sara Duterte Warns of 'No-Election' Scenario in 2028 as She Leads Polls
Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has warned that the country could see no election in 2028, accusing the current administration of trying to block her presidential bid, according to The Philippine Star.
Citing the latest Pulse Asia survey, The Philippine Star reported that Duterte leads the 2028 presidential race with 50% support — 24 percentage points ahead of former Vice President Leni Robredo, who ranked second.
Duterte said the government has been trying to link her to illegal activities, including confidential funds, corruption and even drugs. She also accused authorities of tying her to China-related issues and describing businesses trading with China as a "national security risk."
Senator Imee Marcos has voiced similar concerns about the possibility of no elections in 2028.
Analysts say the political maneuvering is intensifying as the 2028 election approaches, with impeachment complaints against Duterte and election competition becoming intertwined. Some Philippine politicians have brought China-related issues into domestic political struggles, making the country's China policy increasingly driven by domestic political factors.
