A recent Global study of social connections in 2022 put the Philippines as the second loneliest country in theworld and the most Lonesome in Southeast Asia.
The study shows that the younger generation who grew up surrounded by electronic devices such as cell phones and tablets are lonelier. They are usually active on social media but often feel isolated and unappreciated. In addition, loneliness is getting younger, with the number of young people feeling lonely in the Philippines already exceeding the number of people above the age of 65.
Family issue, economic unsupportiveness, epidemic, and over-reliance on social media… CNA said in a recent documentary that all of these have the potential to exacerbate loneliness among Gen Zs.
For those of you from the Philippines, what are some of the reasons you usually feel lonely, and how do you deal with loneliness?
