The success of China-Indonesia cooperation is also a success for the Global South, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.

Spokesperson Lin Jian told at a daily briefing that Foreign Minister Wang Yi's recent visit to Indonesia saw the first conference of the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue Mechanism and the second meeting of the Joint Foreign and Defense Dialogue — the first "2+2" mechanism China has established globally.

Lin said the two sides agreed to deepen development strategy alignment, set more ambitious trade targets and expand cooperation in artificial intelligence. They also reached agreement to restart fishing cooperation, accelerate maritime cooperation and push forward joint development.

On energy and minerals, Lin said both sides are ready to build a comprehensive, open and green partnership, with China assisting Indonesia in transforming resource advantages into development momentum.

Indonesia spoke highly of Chinese companies' contributions to local development, Lin noted, saying "the success of Chinese companies is also a success for Indonesia."

"As major developing countries and key members of the Global South, China and Indonesia's efforts to strengthen strategic coordination and deepen solidarity and cooperation bear great significance far beyond the bilateral dimension," Lin said. "The success of China-Indonesia cooperation is also a success for the Global South."
